The last days of the Celts in the High Forest.
The year is 54 B.C. The young medievalist Pettia and her father, the merchant Redios, are travelling to the castle of the Treverian prince Indutiomarus. There, together with her friend, the Treverian boy Vectimarus, Pettia learns about the peculiarities of the Celtic tribe. But their stay is overshadowed by the great Diet, a meeting of all the Treverian tribes. Indutiomarus tries to unite the Celtic tribes and Germanic allies in the fight against Caesar's legions. However, jealousy and betrayal within their own ranks make this endeavour increasingly difficult. While Pettia gets to know the Treveri's open-cast iron ore mine, experiences the gigantic structure of the Celtic castle, falls under the spell of the gods in the temple district and narrowly escapes death, the situation at the Thing intensifies. A fight to the death reflects the irreconcilable views of the princes. Only the death of the great prince Teutactos and his ceremonial burial delay the final break. Pettia's happiness, however, is found in the suffering of the Treveri. For the funeral celebrations bring her trade great success. But the downfall of the Treveri draws inexorably closer. Did a piece of world history actually take place at the ring wall in Otzenhausen?
