The British "Spitfires" Mk. V, which had been transported to Malta in 1942, under severe pressure from German and Italian air forces, made an invaluable contribution to the successful defence of the strategically important island. For a long time, it was not known exactly which paint schemes and markings the "Spitfires" used in the operations around Malta actually carried. After analysing countless documents, photos and surviving aircraft and aircraft parts, the author presents his findings in this richly illustrated volume. Squadron by squadron, the volume describes the operational histories of the "Spitfire" units and provides information about the paintwork and markings they used. Various photos show aircraft and flying personnel.
