While the private railways in the West German occupation zones were able to continue their operations as independent companies after the end of the Second World War, a dramatic change occurred in the Soviet occupation zone and later the GDR: railway company by railway company, the private railways there were transferred to the Deutsche Reichsbahn. In addition, some railway lines were dismantled as reparations. This book by Lothar Weber gives a complete overview of all former private railways and their vehicles between 1947 and 1953.
