The Volkswagen in World War 2. The VW Kübelwagen Type 82 was the most widely built vehicle of its kind in Germany in the years 1940-1945. Developed by Ferdinand Porsche from 1938 onwards from the civilian "Strength through Joy" car, the Type 82 became a workhorse on all fronts during the Second World War. What distinguished the VW Kübelwagen was its off-road capability, its relatively low development costs and its - thanks to air cooling - unproblematic usability even under difficult climatic conditions. Illustrated by over 200 pictures, this documentation of the development, technology and operational history of this military vehicle legend from VW.
