In times of German air raids on England, the Churchill assault tank replaced its predecessor Matilda II from 1941. However, it was not based on a modern tank concept. This led to constant problems with the engine, transmission and running gear, which did nothing to increase its popularity with the troops. Thanks to constant improvements and conversions, the Churchill nevertheless managed to hold its own and was not taken out of service until 1952. In this volume, Nigel Montgomery provides the reader with all the information on the "Churchill" as well as the other armoured fighting vehicles in British service.
