The withdrawal of the railways from the countryside continues in Germany. However, Deutsche Bahn AG is not the only one to blame for this; the respective state governments are also responsible, as they have cancelled passenger services on many routes. Wolfgang Fiegenbaum provides an overview of the lines in Germany on which passenger traffic was discontinued for the years 2006 to 2016, arranged by federal state, with a historical summary of each line. The selected illustrations reflect the last operating condition in each case and are a reminder of a piece of railway history.
