The F-35 "Lightning II" fighter jet is an important part of global air defence and it is impossible to take your eyes off it. What would happen if you built a model of this state-of-the-art aircraft? One answer to this question is the three models released in Tamiya's 1:48 Masterpiece range: the A-type, the B-type and the C-type. This article presents these three kits and the appeal of the F-35 through interviews with the developers and new model examples. Also covered are painting and ageing techniques that give each model a different atmosphere.
