Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, Fürst von Wahlstatt (* 16 December 1742 in Rostock; Ä 12 September 1819 in Krieblowitz, Silesia) was a Prussian field marshal general and distinguished himself in important battles. His offensive leadership of the troops earned him the popular nickname Marshal Vorwärts, which was bestowed on him not by the Germans but by the Russians who were then involved in the wars of liberation. His persistent advance strategy, with which he pushed through the crossing of the Rhine border and the advance on Paris against the hesitation of the three monarchs of the Sixth Coalition in the winter of 1813/1814, led to the relatively quick defeat of the French. He brought about Napoleon's final downfall by winning the Battle of Waterloo with Wellington. This made them the two most popular war heroes of the wars of liberation in Europe at the time. -Wikipedia-
