This book is the only modern German-language monograph on the English Civil War from a military history perspective. The political and economic prehistory is described, as well as the religious and social circumstances surrounding it. The events on the Irish and Scottish battlefields are also included. A chapter is devoted to the weapons and equipment used, and tactical and military sociological aspects are considered. The core of the book is the detailed battle descriptions (with sketches).
The book is extensively illustrated, contemporary portraits and illustrations of locations are included. 11 large-format and several smaller colour illustrations of re-enactors round off the book and make it a visually comprehensible journey back in time to the 17th century. Axel Oprotkowitz and Hagen Seehase have already dealt with British military history in the form of several book publications in the past.
