The author volunteered for the Gendarmerie School in Vienna and was transferred to Tyrol, where he served in the legendary "Mondscheinkompanie" under Rittmeister Weingerl in Imst. He vividly and pointedly describes his time there and in the Provisional Border Guard Division, which was then transferred to the young Federal Army.
