From 24 to 26 May 2024, the association Friends of the Petersberg Citadel in Erfurt held a symposium on the modernisation of the Petersberg Citadel under Prussia from 1802 to 1873. The political, social and economic development of Erfurt in the Prussian military state is the starting point for the symposium. Military reforms, such as the Roonsche military reform, were also explained. The conference focused on the restoration, modernisation and expansion of the Erfurt fortress, with a special emphasis on the Petersberg Citadel. Important details were also discussed, such as the construction of the defence barracks and a comparison of the war bakeries in Erfurt and Koblenz. Renowned national and international scientists were invited to participate. Some of their contributions incorporated new scientific findings and aspects. All speakers made their manuscripts and extensive image material available, enabling this conference proceedings to be published with the support of the Sparkassenstiftung Erfurt and the City of Erfurt.
