From Aero 45 to Zlin Z-43: Cessna Aircraft Company, De Havilland Aircraft, Fieseler-Flugzeugbau GmbH, Piper Aircraft Corporation, Beech Aircraft Corporation, North American Inc, Stinson Aircraft Corporation, Zlin, Omnipol, Stampe&Vertongen, Jodel and Messerschmitt - all aircraft manufacturers with illustrious and traditional names, some of which have long since ceased to exist or were absorbed into large corporations in the years following the Second World War. What has survived, however, are their aeroplanes, which have long since become old-timers or classics and enjoy a loyal following of private and hobby pilots. It is thanks to these enthusiasts that the civilian aircraft are kept in airworthy condition.

For years, aviation specialist and former Bundeswehr pilot Klaus-Jochen Rieger has been following the activities of the small, but excellent vintage aircraft scene in Germany and Europe. In his new book, the former flying instructor portrays over 50 large and small, well-known and lesser-known manufacturers and their aircraft. The focus is on single-engine aeroplanes built between the mid-1940s and the mid-1970s. Each of the models listed and described in detail is still registered and actively flown. A separate chapter is dedicated to the spectacular "Warbirds", the legendary aircraft from the 1940s. The few examples that survived the war in airworthy condition are among the stars and contested highlights of every airshow today.
