Zrínyi Miklós is revered today as a hero in Hungary and Croatia. Throughout his life, he fought for Hungary's liberation from Ottoman rule. The last year of his life, 1663/64, was the year of his greatest triumphs but also his most bitter defeat. The book not only provides a deep insight into this period of Zrínyi Miklós' life, but also attempts to make social life in the 17th century comprehensible. One focus is the analysis of the armed forces of the time in all their facets. In a special chapter, the author lets Zrínyi Miklós speak for himself in a series of dialogues with renowned military commanders of his time.
