The Viet Cong being a guerrilla organisation had a simplified rank structure with positions such as commander, deputy commander, political officer (commissar), platoon leader and section leader. These ranks helped establish a chain of command structure within the organisation which was adaptable in the unconventional warfare tactics they employed during the conflict. This figure is wearing a mix of civilian and military clothes as well as standard NVA (North Vietnamese Army) cotton fighting order and the ubiquitous AK47 Assault Rifle. On his head is an uncamouflaged sun helmet which suggests he is in a 'safe' area.
