In the 1978 film, Dame Maggie Smith played the tall, chain -smoking and rather masculine figure of Miss Bowers. Here she is wearing a rather heavy, for Egypt, tweed tartan skirt together with a matching grey jacket and waistcoat and a pair of very sensible brown and white walking shoes.
