Easter 1945. Faster than anyone expected, the apocalypse broke over Greater Vienna, the supposed bulwark of Greater Germany. The days of Nazi rule were numbered, and in the midst of bombs and fires, the Viennese longed for peace. Party bigwigs hastily cleared out of their offices and fled, while those who remained sought shelter in air-raid shelters or bunkers. In the subcamps of the concentration camps, SS henchmen force their slave prisoners to go on death marches to the west. The regime, not willing to admit defeat, sends young boys and old men into the hopeless fight against the inexorably advancing Red Army. In the city, the military and private resistance is forming, and the SS are murdering right up to the last minute. In a few dramatic days, the fate of the city and its inhabitants is decided, and the change from dictatorship to freedom takes place, even if it is overshadowed by violence, destruction and hunger. There is hope for better times...
