The Lockheed Martin-Boeing F-22 is a stealth-capable fifth-generation fighter aircraft used by the US Air Force. The "Raptor" has two turbofan engines with a Pratt & Whitney F119 afterburner that can generate vectored thrust by moving the exhaust nozzles. Stealth capability is achieved through an extremely aerodynamic profile and the use of "high-tech" construction materials that minimise detectability by radar. Great attention has been paid to the design of the air intakes and outlets to reduce exhaust heat generation and noise emissions. The air-to-air and air-to-surface armament system is installed in the cargo bays in the fuselage to minimise reflections intercepted by radar. The avionics are highly advanced and can detect, track and acquire targets at long ranges.
