The AMX "Ghibli" single-engine ground attack aircraft is the result of collaboration between the Italian and Brazilian aircraft industries. The project was introduced in the 1980s to replace the obsolete Fiat G-91Y fighter-bombers in the flight departments of the Italian Air Force. To this need was added the need of Brazilian aviation for the replacement of the MB-326. The AMX has an aerodynamic layout characterised by its high swept wing configuration, capable of reaching a top speed of 1,000 km/h thanks to its Rolls-Royce Spey 807 engine. In its Italian version, it is equipped with an M61 Vulcan 20 mm cannon and can carry 3,800 kg of attack armament. The Ghibli has also been used in various theatres of operations (Afghanistan, Libya) to carry out reconnaissance missions and provide tactical support to ground forces as close as possible.
