The Brenner railway line formed the umbilical cord between the Third Reich and the Italian front. The Allied air forces in the Mediterranean launched an air offensive against this strategic target in order to isolate the German forces stationed along the Gothic Line. This operation was one of the most difficult chapters of World War II for Trentino. The authors devote three volumes to it. In the first volume, they present the targets and the armed forces involved and trace the chronology of the Allied air raids. The second volume sheds light on the Battle of Brenner from the perspective of the 57th Airborne Regiment, while the third describes the fighter-bomber attacks.
