An attempt is made to present the events of the war in the district of Daun (Eifel) from the point of view of the suffering population and the fighting soldier, in the form of a reading book. The terrible years of the Second World War are described in numerous individual stories that are integrated into the major events of the war. The authors were less interested in presenting war strategies by naming the individual armies and divisions, but rather in focusing on individual fates while taking chronology into account.
