The Dash 8 plays an important role for the Greek airline, enabling flights to and between smaller islands that cannot otherwise be served by larger jets. Despite its age - SX-BIP was originally built in 1992 for the US airline Mesaba Airlines - it still performs its task reliably today. It reached Greek soil for the first time in 2003 and was already in service for the two predecessors of today's Olympic Air - Olympic Aviation and Olympic Airlines.
