Between 1974 and 1981, the airline, which at the time still operated as Alia Royal Jordanian Airlines, put six Boeing 727-200 Advanced aircraft into service. Occasionally, even His Majesty King Hussein I himself piloted the aircraft, which was popular with pilots and passengers. This novelty bears the current and elegant livery of Royal Jordanian and was christened "Azraq", a desert castle in eastern Jordan.
