Australia's national airline is the first in the Asia-Pacific region to operate the brand-new long-haul Airbus A321XLR. The new aircraft will gradually replace Qantas' Boeing 737 fleet over the next decade. Due to its fuel efficiency and additional fuel tanks, the A321XLR can fly approximately 3,000 km further than the 737, enabling more non-stop flights across the Australian continent and beyond. New international routes that were previously uneconomical due to the larger aircraft required are being explored, including connections between Perth on the west coast and India or Malaysia.
