Despite the introduction of more modern aircraft on inter-island routes, Hawaiian Airlines continued to operate the DC-3s, which were popular with tourists, well into the 1960s. Their popularity even increased when they were refitted with the enlarged "Viewmaster" windows. Their comparatively slow speed, lower altitude and then wider windows made them ideal for sightseeing flights.
