For 100 years, the now iconic Goodyear airships have soared through the skies, captivating spectators around the world. It all began in 1925 with the "Pilgrim." It was the first commercial, non-rigid airship, powered by helium, with a gondola that could accommodate two crew members and two passengers. The "Pilgrim" ushered in the use of airships for promotional purposes. Since the 1960s, the blue and yellow airships have been an integral part of professional sporting events in North America. In recent years, this flying icon has also been increasingly used in Europe. "Wingfoot One" was the first of three state-of-the-art airships manufactured by Luftschiffbau Zeppelin and officially entered service on August 23, 2014, at the Wingfoot Lake Airship Hangar near the company's headquarters in Akron, Ohio.
