36th Airborne Command and Control Wing operates all four E-3 Sentry aircraft for airborne airspace reconnaissance and surveillance (Airborne Early Warning and Control Systems, abbreviated AWACS) in the service of the French Air Force. Each of these aircraft bears the emblem of former traditional units of the French Air Force on the tail. The aircraft with the serial number 36-CB honors the BR 43 "Charognard" ("Vulture"), one of the oldest squadrons, founded in 1918. This aircraft also celebrates two anniversaries: In 2022, the Armee de l'Air not only celebrated the 90th anniversary of the 36th Squadron, which was upgraded from an air observation group to a squadron in 1932. The year 2022 was also the 30th anniversary of the introduction of the E-3 Sentry into the French Armed Forces.
