Like other European air forces, the Belgian Armed Forces are replacing their F-16 fighter jets with the F-35A stealth multi-role combat aircraft. Thirty-four aircraft are currently on order and will be deployed with the 10th Squadron in Kleine Brogel and the 2nd Squadron in Florennes, replacing the remaining F-16s by 2027. However, the first four F-35s, including the FL-002 registered "Lightning," will remain in the USA as part of the 312th Squadron, a conversion unit stationed at Luke Air Base in Arizona.
