Since its founding as a mail delivery service in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1937, US Airways has undergone several name changes and grown rapidly: from All American Aviation to Allegheny Airlines, to USAir, after the purchase of Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) and Piedmont, and finally to US Airways in 1997. By early 2010, the airline had grown into one of the largest airlines with over 340 jets and an additional more than 270 regional aircraft operated under the US Airways Express brand, and was also the world's largest operator of Airbus aircraft. In 2013, US Airways merged with American Airlines, making it one of several airlines that remain part of the legacy of today's American Airlines. To honor this heritage, the Dallas, Texas-based airline has repainted several aircraft in the colors of various historic airlines.
