The book describes how Victor Amadeus III of Savoy had to reorganise his army to counter the French threat, and recounts the often heroic and stubborn resistance of the troops on the high Alpine passes. Piedmontese units, uniforms, flags and weapons are described and richly illustrated with contemporary artworks and new sculptures by Emanuele Manfredi.
