Since his re-election in 2024, President Donald Trump has laid claim to the annexation of both Canada and Greenlanda move that has strained relations with the governments of Canada and Denmark. Until 2022, however, Denmark and Canada were themselves engaged in a dispute, which was resolved peacefully and amicablyan example of how mature and responsible governments ought to handle conflicts. This is the second volume in a series examining how Canada, Denmark, and the United States have cooperated on defense matters since the Second World War, and how this collaboration ensured the defense of North America throughout the Cold War. The Cold War, which followed the Second World War, rendered both Greenland and the Canadian Arctic indispensable to the protection of North America against potential Soviet air attacksspecifically through the installation of early-warning radar networks and the stationing of interceptor aircraft at forward bases. Concurrently, the USA established Thule Air Force Base in northern Greenland to support bomber and reconnaissance aircraft missions over the USSR.
