This volume contains all the news that William Russell, correspondent for the British newspaper "The Times", sent home from the battlefields of the Crimean War (1853-1856). He is regarded as the first modern war correspondent because he brought the realities of a distant theatre of war closer to a public that had developed in the meantime more quickly, directly and unsparingly than before. From the embarkation of the first British contingents to the surrender of the Russian fortress of Sevastopol, Russell accompanied the soldiers. During this time, he witnessed the bloody battles of Alma, Inkerman, Balaklava and Tchernaya, among others, and reported on the events in detail.
