The history of the German Air Force (Luftwaffe - Army Air Forces - Naval Air Forces) has hardly been summarised in its entirety since its formation in 1956. This series aims to summarise the history and development of these separate branches of the German armed forces.
The 20th edition focuses on the deployment of the North American F-86K Sabre, the Luftwaffe's first all-weather fighter aircraft. The TST, DSFC and CFK test programmes on the Alpha Jet are another extensive topic. For the NVA, Fighter Wing 8 "Hermann Matern" is presented and the naval aviators deal with the Lockheed P-3C Orion.
