The history of the German Air Forces (Luftwaffe-Heeresflieger-Marineflieger) has hardly been treated in a comprehensive manner since its establishment in 1956. This series aims to present the history and development of these separate branches of the German armed forces. This issue focuses on the development of the VJ-101C, the world's first supersonic VTOL aircraft. It also reports on the deployment of the F-84 "Thunderstreak" at Weapons School 30. Further topics are the introduction of the "Super Hercules" in the German Air Force, the farewell of the H-34G in the Army Air Forces, submarine hunting from the air, the "Neuburg Shark", as well as for the friends of the LSK/NVA the history of the fighter-bomber squadron 37 "Klement Gottwald".
