The author describes how, as a nameless soldier and radio operator, he took part in many battles and engagements across Europe. Finally, he experienced the retreating Eastern Front in a tank, driving right up to the "gate to hell". In the process, he took photographs again and again, sometimes under the most difficult conditions. This text and picture book, with a large selection of b/w and colour photos from his own archive, describes the self-sacrificing life of this ordinary soldier.
