Since May 2015, Königstein Fortress has had a new attraction: the permanent exhibition In Lapide Regis. On the King's Stone. In 33 rooms, it chronologically recounts the eventful history of the imposing fortification from the formation of the sandstone rock, through the medieval castle, the monastery, the construction of the fortress and its use as a place of courtly representation, to the prisoner-of-war camps of the two world wars, the GDR youth work camp and finally its opening as a museum. This catalogue not only describes the exhibits, but also documents the models, installations and media stations of the exhibition. Individual scholarly contributions delve deeper into topics related to archaeology, Saxon regional history, architectural and military history, and restoration.
