1809 Austria. Emperor Franz saw a favourable opportunity for himself to break Napoleon's rule by attacking and to restore Austria's old role in Europe. The warnings of Archduke Charles and the Peace Party were not heard and a hasty attack on Bavaria followed in April. After no reports of success came from the front, the population began to grumble. It all ended in Austria's defeat and the suppression of the uprising in Tyrol.
With the perspective of contemporary witnesses from the ranks of France's allies, the months of the war in Austria in 1809 are described. There were soldiers of the Confederation of the Rhine from a total of 22 countries from Baden to Bavaria, Saxony and to many small principalities.
