This book provides as comprehensive an overview as possible of the evolution of the German soldier's uniform and equipment between August 1914 and the end of 1916. Thanks to the introduction of the field grey cloth from 1907, the German army was undoubtedly better adapted to modern warfare than its opponents on the other side of the Rhine. Nevertheless, the German army also has archaic elements, such as the famous Pickelhaube from the 1840s. In this respect, the period from 1914 to 1916 is particularly interesting, as it represents a transitional period until the appearance of a German fighter whose silhouette anticipates that of the compatriot of 1940.
