The 8th Air Force was the first strategic air force of the United States Army Air Force (USAAF) to be formed during the Second World War. By mid-1944, two years after its formation, it had amassed over 200,000 men at its bases in Great Britain and was able to deploy over 2,000 four-engine bombers protected by 1,000 fighter planes for a single operation. Its main task was to support the advance of the Allies on the continent, in particular by carrying out massive daytime raids to disrupt the Germans' production facilities and communications networks, both in Germany and in the occupied territories of Western Europe. This 200-page book tells the story of the Mighty Eighth in Europe from 1942 to 1945, with more than 350 colour profiles and dozens of period photos. This is a single-volume edition of special issues 16 and 17 of the journal "Avions de Combat".
