Of all the theatres of World War 2, the North African one is probably the most exotic. From 1941 to 1943, German soldiers fought there against an Allied superiority. After the Italians, who were allied with Germany, attacked the British in Egypt from their colony of Libya in 1940, they quickly found themselves in trouble. To support its ally, Germany sent the Afrika Korps to Libya.
Under the energetic leadership of Erwin Rommel, the troops gained the initiative and drove the British before them. Despite the fateful battles, the war in North Africa was fought with exemplary chivalry by both sides.
