This life story is deeply marked by the turmoil of World War 2 and the post-war period. The author served in the Red Army, fled to the West and volunteered to serve in the Polish exile army in northern Italy. He later joined the Foreign Legion and joined the 1st Battalion Etrangers Parachutistes in 1948. He fought in Indochina. After discharge he served with the U.S. Army's 10th Special Force Group in Bad Tölz.
