A total of 223 Panzer IV Ausf.E tanks were produced by Germany. Like its predecessors, the 21-ton Ausf.E was equipped with a short-barreled 7.5cm KwK37 L/24 gun mounted in the turret. Significant improvements in this variant included a new cupola design, a rear storage bin on the turret, a redesigned driver's visor, and enhanced armor protection. The armor upgrade featured a 30mm bolted-on plate in addition to the existing 50mm glacis armor. The Ausf.E was widely deployed in Germanys campaigns in the Balkans, North Africa, and Russia.
