The change from the medieval heavy cavalry to the Hungarian-influenced light cavalry (Flügelhusaren) took place towards the end of the 16th century under King Stefan Batory. Falconry was of great importance. Only the king carried a horse's tail crowned by a falcon's wing. High noble leaders were allowed to wear a horse's tail without a falcon's wing as a distinction.
