In the 1950s and 1960s, a wide variety of aircraft were used by the Royal Air Force. The fighter squadrons used the last versions of the piston engine aircraft from the Second World War as well as the first jet aircraft. The more advanced versions of these aircraft were widely used before being replaced by the more modern types. By the end of the decade, the RAF had aircraft that could fly at twice the speed of sound. Using colour aircraft profiles, this volume shows British Hornet, Hunter, Javalin, Meteor, Mosquito, Sabre, Spitfire, Swift, Vampire and Venom fighter aircraft used by units overseas.
