The GAZ-69 was a four wheel drive light truck, originally designed in the late 1940's and early 1950's. It was originally built at Gorky Automobile Zavod (GAZ) from 1953, but from 1955 was built at the Ural factory and was designated the UAZ-69. The GAZ-69A (UAZ-69A) was a four door field car for Officers, or up to eight troops. It weighed 1,525kg and could carry a 500kg load. Powered by a 55 bhp, 2.12 litre side valve diesel engine, it had a top speed of 80 km/h. The GAZ-69A was widely exported and was used in action in Africa, Middle East and Vietnam.
