This volume takes a look at the importance of the Royal Navy to the British homeland in the period from the "Glorious Revolution" in 1688 to the end of the Napoleonic Wars. It focuses on three thematic areas: 1. the reality of naval life in the 17th, 18th and early 19th centuries; 2. the connection of the British Navy to domestic society, culture and national identity; 3. the history, life and significance of the person of naval hero Admiral Horatio Nelson.
