Ur, today's Tell el-Muqejjir, is one of the oldest Sumerian city foundations and ancient centre in Mesopotamia (Mesopotamia, in present-day Iraq). A ziggurat of the moon god Nanna is among its most important structures. The city's beginnings date back to about 4000 BC. It is now an important archaeological site.
