"The hole in the fence" 19O4

Around 1900, "physical exercises" found more and more followers, including bathing sports. Slowly, a loose bathing costume for bathers of both sexes became established: the bathing jersey.
Girls and women still wore the full jersey (in various cuts), while male bathers, in addition to this full jersey, already donned shorts and the well-known triangular bathing trunks. All bathing establishments were surrounded by a high fence, and in addition to the first family baths, there were also individual baths for women (ladies' baths) or men (men's baths), which the opposite sex was not allowed to enter. All the more interesting, of course, is a glimpse of the forbidden...
Our series shows three male "knothole peepers" who are observed by a moralizer doing something outrageous. The latter immediately calls a gendarme to have the perpetrators arrested. On the other side of the fence, untouched by these "dramatic" events, unsuspecting ladies and girls go about their bathing.
Our series includes not only the figure of the well-known Prussian gendarme with the "pickelhaube", but also one figure each of a French, Austrian and English law enforcement officer. This should give collectors from other European countries the opportunity to have this amusing little scene set in their countries.
