After her period of mourning, Kriemhild accepts the courtship of the Hun king (Attila, King Etzel). Etzel invites the relatives to a feast which Kriemhild intends to use for her revenge. Hagen sees through the trap and knows that none of the Nibelungs will return to Worms. Nevertheless, he undertakes the journey. Armed, the Nibelungs appear in the festival hall. Strife and reconciliation alternate several times until the implacable Hagen beheads Kriemhild's infant son. Now the fight to the end is inevitable. (Nibelungenlied Part 4).
