Regiment No. 12 (profile), Prussia 1756-1763. As stated in a guidebook dated 1743, one had to perform 39 individual tasks in order to reload the Prussian rifles. After completion the rifle was lifted and held up vertically to signal the rifle was ready to fire. The next commands were "Make Ready" and "Fire".
Many grips were needed to load the smoothbore rifles. The regulations from 1743 still specify 39 grips. After loading, the rifle was brought into a ready position, reminiscent of the later "presentation grip", so that it was clear when everyone had finished loading. This was followed by the commands to "strike" and "fire".
