Advancing, (profile), Austria-Hungary 1756-1763. Grenadiers were tall grown elite soldiers. Their original task was to throw grenades into the enemies formations. When this was taken over by the artillery, they were used as elite back up units for critical situations on the battlefield. These soldiers wore the grenadiers hat with pride to show off their elite status.
